Indian PM calls for calm after gang-rape sparks violent protests in capital

In the aftermath of Friday's Newtown school shooting, we've heard tales mostly horrifying and occasionally heroic, from surviving witnesses and mourning citizens alike, but this one lies somewhere in between, all the more unshakeable. One six-year-old Sandy Hook student played dead in her first-grade classroom, her family pastor said late Sunday, with the kind of quick thinking that ended up saving her life but now leaves her with the unshakeable memories of watching all her classmates being shot and killed. ...

"Hobbit" fever beats Tom Cruise at box office

(Reuters) - The dwarfs and elves of "The Hobbit" overpowered Tom Cruise to take the box office title for a second time, grabbing $37.6 million in U.S. and Canadian ticket sales as a crowd of new films fought for pre-holiday audiences.

Cruise's crime drama "Jack Reacher," a film about a fatal sniper attack, landed in second place with $15.6 million. In third place, adult comedy "This is 40" pulled in $12 million, according to studio estimates compiled by Reuters on Sunday.

Domestic ticket sales for "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" fell by about 57 percent during the film's second weekend. Movie receipts typically drop 40 percent to 60 percent each week.

In international markets, "Hobbit" sales reached $284 million and brought the movie's global take to $434 million, distributor Warner Bros. said.

"The Hobbit" is the first of three movies based on the classic J.R.R. Tolkien novel set in the fantasy world of Middle Earth. The films, produced by MGM and Warner Bros.' New Line Cinema, are prequels to the blockbuster "Lord of the Rings" franchise that brought in box office gold a decade ago.

Producers of "The Hobbit" and other films hope to enjoy a big boost this week around the Christmas and New Year's holidays. The current crop will face competition starting on Tuesday, Christmas Day, from Quentin Tarantino's Western "Django Unchained," musical "Les Miserables" and comedy "Parental Guidance."

Sales over the coming days are expected to push 2012 to a domestic box office record. The year is on track to finish with $10.8 billion worth of ticket sales in the North American (U.S. and Canadian) market, according to a projection from box office tracker Hollywood.com. The current record is $10.6 billion, set in 2009.

PREMIER POSTPONED

Over the weekend, "Jack Reacher" debuted just days after the Newtown, Connecticut, school shooting sparked new debate about the impact of movie violence. "Reacher" begins with a sniper killing a handful of seemingly random victims. A red-carpet premiere and a screening to promote the $60-million production were postponed after the Newtown tragedy.

"We opened pre-Christmas with our eyes wide open," said Don Harris, Paramount's president of domestic distribution, adding that he expected the film's box office take to grow over the coming weeks. He said the Newtown shooting had "no effect" on the movie's opening.

Before the weekend, the studio had predicted sales of $12 million to $15 million.

Adult comedy "This is 40" stars Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann as a middle-aged couple. The studio billed the $35 million production from "Bridesmaids" producer Judd Apatow as a "sort-of sequel" to 2007 comedy "Knocked Up."

The president of domestic distribution for Universal, Nikki Rocco, said the film exceeded the studio's estimates for opening prior to a mid-week Christmas, and dismissed talk of a Judd Apatow slump since his comedy "Bridesmaids," which opened to $26.3 million in May 2011.

"Adults have choices at this time of year," Rocco said, citing the broad slate of films already on offer and those opening on Christmas day.

Comedy "The Guilt Trip," starring Barbra Streisand and Seth Rogen as a mother and son on a cross-country drive, pulled in $5.4 million over three days. The movie opened two days before the weekend, on Wednesday, scoring a five-day total of $7.4 million.

Also this weekend, Walt Disney Co re-released 2001 animated Pixar hit "Monsters Inc" in 3D. The movie earned $5 million at domestic theaters. Next June, Disney is releasing a prequel to the film called "Monsters University."

Another new release, the 3D "Cirque Du Soleil: Worlds Away," with performances by the famous acrobatic troupe, earned $2.1 million.

In five theaters in New York and Los Angeles, thriller "Zero Dark Thirty" about the hunt for Osama bin Laden grossed $410,000 in what box office analyst for Hollywood.com Paul Dergarabedian described as a "huge limited release start for the film."

The movie, considered an Oscar contender, will expand nationwide on January 11.

"The Hobbit" was distributed by Time Warner Inc's Warner Bros. studio. Paramount Pictures, a unit of Viacom Inc, released "Jack Reacher," "The Guilt Trip" and "Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away." Comcast Corp's Universal Studios released "This is 40," and Sony Corp's film studio distributed "Zero Dark Thirty."

Rev. Wil Gafney, Ph.D.: A Letter to My Enslaved Ancestors on the 150th Anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation

A Letter to My Enslaved Ancestors,

I don't know your names or from where you were stolen. I don't know how many of you freed yourselves or died in bondage. Yet I claim you all and I honor you. The savage ferocity of slavery has torn your names from the memories of your descendants but not your lives, your survival, your strength. I want to thank you for surviving and enduring the unimaginable. As I give thanks for you, I weep for you. I give thanks for your sacrifice -- not that you sacrificed yourselves, but that you were sacrificed -- human sacrifice on an epic scale to greed and misanthropic racism.

I know that I cannot know the fullness of the horrors you faced, endured, survived and to which some of you succumbed. Yet I must try to give voice to them. In your stolen names I now name some of the horrors of American chattel slavery: intergenerational terrorism, murder, kidnapping, rape, forced pregnancy, forced miscarriages and abortions, child abuse and neglect, physical, mental, emotional, sexual and spiritual torture, beating, burning, stabbing, scarring, maiming, forced illiteracy, extirpation of culture and religion, violent imposition of a morally bankrupt idolatrous Christianity, and much, much more.

What ever it is that I am and all that I am, I am because you were. I cannot contemplate my future without reflecting on my past, our past. Our nation now looks back 150 years to the Emancipation Proclamation. Many will pretend that one man freed the slaves in the United States and its territories with the stroke of a pen. They will not tell the stories of dirty tricks and politics. They will not say that the Proclamation only freed some slaves in some circumstances. They will not say that the majority of slaves freed themselves. They will say that their own ancestors were all on the side of the angels. But we know different. We know the truth and the truth has set us free.

Remembering that you built this country with your bare hands, your blood and broken bodies forming the mortar that cements it together -- on a bloody foundation of other massacred peoples, that you freed yourselves and this nation from the curse of slavery, that you reconstructed this nation after it began cannibalizing itself over the right to exploit your bodies, I now look to the future. I look to the future that will be and I look to the future that I hope will be.

The racism, sexism, xenophobia, misanthropy and greed that characterized your times endures and adapts. And those plagues are hounded, challenged, diminished, transformed and rejected in our time by many of those who have benefitted from them and as well as by those of us who have borne its burdens.

The future I envision is one in which the United States is further enriched by the presence and contributions of citizens who reflect the breadth of the world's peoples, and one in which ethnic majority and minority status will be upended and have no power. I also see a future in which power and resources which are currently concentrated in a dwindling segment of society multiply across race and class categories leading to a strengthening of us all. I also foresee a future in which some will still exploit others: we still disenfranchise some people with state and federal laws and taxes as it pertains to marriage and its benefits; we have not closed the pay gap between women and men; we have not done justice for the native peoples of this land; sexual slavery and trafficking endures, the poor remain with us.

In a future which yet may be, I see your children's children's children across the ages transforming our society, economy and infrastructure with renewable energy sources and eradicating abject poverty and hunger in partnership with sister and brother Americans whose ancestry circles the globe and in partnership with all peoples everywhere.

In order to reach our future, we must survive our present. Our children must survive and thrive and there is much that imperils them: poverty, substandard education, violence, lack of access to health and dental care, astronomical incarceration rates, a deeply flawed justice system, failure and inability to dream a world beyond the one they know or to which they have been confined, hopelessness.

In your name, in your memory we work and pray and struggle, weeping and rejoicing at what has been and what will be.
I am your child, the child of your struggle and I pray, the child of your hope.

recovery of CAD and VSD Visio files after emptying the recycle bin

by Jason Davies on December 22, 2012

Did you know that the Windows recycle bin is really just a folder? When you delete a file, it simply goes into the Windows recycle bin where it sits until you empty the folder out. Once emptied though, things can change dramatically and quickly. The file that was simply in a folder is now marked for deletion within the file system in a part called the bitmap. This bitmap holds the key to success or failure.

The bitmap is a file that determines if the space where a file sits is available for over-writing. When a file is deleted Windows will make the space available to other files on your hard drive. This means that once you delete a file, there is potential for that deleted file to get damaged quickly. Every file name has a link on the hard drive and is stored in the Master File Table (MFT). This is only true if you are using the ?windows? file system of course. Mac, UNIX, Linux operating systems use their own partition types and that is outside the scope of this blog.
Many undelete programs simply take a look through the MFT to determine if the file still exists. If it sees that it was marked to be erased but hasn?t happened yet there is a pretty good great possibility for recovery. This is one reason why you should never use data recovery software and restore files back to the original hard drive. Doing so can ensure your files get over written and are gone for good. They should be restored to another device that is NOT the same.

Do you need data recovery for missing files? The best policy is to shut off your computer and find a data recovery expert to help you. TechRx offers data recovery for deleted files and can help you locate the missing link. We also have capability to repair certain files with corruption too.
TechRx Inc. offers logical data recovery for missing files and can get your pictures, photos, and documents recovered. We can also find fragments of documents such as Word documents too. Certain files need to be 100% correct to work though. This includes program files, or images, and videos, Visio files and even AutoCad files called DWG. If you do not recover the entire file it may be junk. On the other hand, a large Word document might have enough information remaining to be useful.
Do you want our help? Call us ? Hey TechRx! We will recover your data quickly and send your files back to you electronically through our secure file transport. Alternatively, if you decide to recover files yourself please read and understand the instructions that accompany the software. Call TechRx Inc. today for a free consultation at 920.884.1195 or email us on our contact page.

You must determine what audience you want to reach; then you must figure out how to go about attracting that audience to your website. Now that you know who your target audience is, it will be easy to find the information that will encourage them to access your site time and again.

It may cost money to buy a domain name that you are happy with. Many of the good domain names are already taken, so you may not be able to get one that matches your company name. You can get any domain name you want if you have over a thousand dollars to spend. You should definitely weigh the pros and cons of this investment.

TIP! You can build a client list by using a squeeze page. Squeeze pages prompt visitors to provide their email.

Joining forces with a charity can help your business, increase your visibility and help the charity also. Choose a charity and give a set percent of your profits to that charity. This will give you free publicity, create good will and benefit your business and the charity. You can partner with more than a singular charity to give your costumer base a chance to choose which to support.

Be certain to make use of textual emphasis techniques as you plan your site?s layout. Tools like bold, italics, and underline are ways to make a word more important than the surrounding words. This can improve clarity and direct the focus of the reader.

Many people respond to titles. Don?t be afraid to let it be known that you are indeed the head honcho. Try labeling yourself as ?CEO? or ?President? of your business.

TIP! Current content is very important on your website. When people come to your website and see information that is dated, they think that the business is not performing and may be leery of initiating contact with you.

Don?t throw in the towel if you experience a few bumps on the road. Even if you are close to giving up do not do it! You may be so close to the prize. If you are designing a website, make sure you have done your research and are confident about the direction you are taking it in. At times, this can take a lot of effort. Keep your focus on your end result and realize that your hard work will pay off.

Let customers rate and review your products, and allow them to explain the reasons for their ratings. Providing honest feedback from consumers will help new potential customers have confidence in purchasing your products.

Remember your specific goals and stick with them. Determine the type of articles you wish to write and which directory you will be submitting them to. Directories have article requirements that you should be aware of. Write with these guidelines in mind to have the best submissions.

TIP! Make sure your customer can easily find a page on your website that accurately presents content about your product or service before they buy. This will allow them to feel educated about their potential purchase.

Change your headlines and add relevant content often. Keep a record of how those changes affect the traffic generated on your site. After you?ve found a tone that is particularly effective for your products and your customers, start employing it regularly and make all of your content consistent. This will pay off in the future with increased customer visits.

The key to any Online marketing campaign is knowing what works and doesn?t work for your competition. If you are aware of what they are selling and know you can do something a bit better, then you can be very profitable and surpass them in sales. This is a key component in Internet promotion.

Here is a great tip for successful website marketing. Make your landing page simple with a clear objective. Here you should focus on selling. They should know what they are selling when they get to that page. If they have to look around on your site for the information they want, they will likely leave more quickly.

TIP! It can be challenging to choose which direction to lead your business in and design the accompanying website. Start out broad and list interests and niches that are important to you.

Make sure you utilize social media. Facebook fan pages give clients as well as customers a place to give feedback that anyone can view. Twitter can allow you to communicate informally with your customers.

Now that you?ve learned a little more about marketing your business online, you should be able to formulate a plan. With successful Website marketing, you can sell goods and services to people from all over the world.
