You are here: Home / Entertainment / Theatre is a Performing Art that has Been in Existence for Many Years

The history of theatre started more than 2,500 years in the past in ancient Greek times. Theatre as a term has Greek origins, and as an art developed largely in Athens in the beginning. Theatre activities in Greece happened in huge amphitheaters and were one of three varieties, tragedy, comedy or satyr. Following was Roman theatre. For the Romans, theatre was a performance art that was well-liked and diverse. Performances incorporated street theatre, nude dancing, acrobatics and much more. Then there was the transition into Medieval Theatre, followed by the Renaissance period, Shakespeare and the 18th, 19th and 20th century?s varying interpretations of this performance art. Theatre has a lengthy history full of details telling its evolution as a performance art.

In present times we have a handful of diverse types of theatre. We have drama, musical theatre, comedy and tragedy. With the technological advances of present times, there are also diverse technical effects that go into theatre. In addition to the playwright, producer, director and actors and actresses that bring life to a performance and the designers to supply visuals, there are the effects. With design, there are costume and scene creators. Costumes are the easy element, with scenery there are lighting effects and huge scenery pieces that have to be rapidly and effortlessly movable. For the duration of scene changes, a scenery lift may be employed. These stage lifts are typically driven by hydraulics and are ready to lift total sections of a theatre stage. There is also the music that goes into a performance and other special effects, for instance pyrotechnics.

Theatre has been around for many years, but has evolved tremendously as time has progressed. While theatre productions are nevertheless a kind of entertainment and art nowadays, they have become much more advanced. In current times there are much more sophisticated special effects that can be employed along with elaborate scenery. This live art form that has been in existence for many years will only continue to improve and evolve with technological advances.

Health and Fitness: Thyroid - blog*spot

Your thyroid gland is responsible for producing many of the hormones that regulate metabolism in your body. Basically, this means that a properly functioning thyroid helps to produce the chemicals that convert calories into energy, on the cellular level. When these chemicals, or hormones, are deficient in some way, many symptoms result that can end in disease or damage to other organs.

The thyroid gland?s main function is to remove iodine from the blood. It then uses the iodine to produce hormones. The two main thyroid hormones are thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3).? When these hormones are released from the thyroid and into the blood, a large percentage of T4 is transformed into T3, affecting the metabolism of cells.

The location of the thyroid gland itself is in your neck, just beneath your Adam?s apple and above your collar bone.? Some people mistake their Adam?s apple for their thyroid, so it is important to know that the thyroid gland location is closer to the collar bone. There is a soft area above your collar bone. If you place a finger there and move up until you find a slightly more firm area beneath your Adam?s apple, this is where your thyroid gland location is. It is a butterfly-shaped gland comprised of two side lobes along the windpipe, connected by a narrow band of tissue.

Thyroid Gland Location

It?s possible to inspect your thyroid for swelling or possible damage by holding a mirror in front of you, and watch for unusual enlargements or bulges in the gland while drinking a glass of water. You will likely notice your Adam?s apple moving up and down as you swallow. Beneath that, if you see your thyroid gland location exhibit any enlargement or lumps, you will want to consult with your doctor for further inspection and tests.

wedding dance expert | Home & Garden

wedding dance expertI?m Mary Pinizzotto, your wedding dance expert. I?ve been teaching dance since 1990. I?ve taught hundreds of people to dance for their weddings. Now I?ve taken all that I?ve learned as a dance professional and turned it into a fun, easy way for you to move as one and impress all your friends and family with your first wedding dance, without ever setting foot in a dance studio!

Scroll down to met some of my students and find out how you can get started dancing right away ? no waiting!

Of course you would! After all, the minister performs the vows, but your chance to perform comes when that first dance is announced. It?s so important that you look and feel fabulous.

With all your friends and family looking on, the first dance is your chance to show everyone what a perfect couple you really are. (And I?ll let you in on a secret right now: dancing is lovemaking, set to music. So making that first dance great is an awesome way to start your whole relationship off on the right foot!)

Dear Mary, I just wanted to say thank you, thank you for adding so much to our wedding! Learning to dance with you before our big day not only amazed our guests, but gave us a new, fun activity to do together for the rest of our lives. I think my husband was a little cautious to begin with, but after the first lesson he realized how much he was enjoying himself. I?ve always loved to dance and am grateful to you for teaching us how to glide across the floor together! Thanks again! Karen

When everyone asks, "Where did you find the time to learn to dance like that? "you don?t have to admit that you learned a simple system, right in your own home. They?ll be so impressed, and I promise not to tell! Let?s face it: even if you could convince your fiance to go and take dance lessons, you don?t have time for them. Luckily for you, you don?t need them. All you need to learn are a few (very!) simple elements that you can easily learn at home, and a way to combine them in a simple system that will have you looking fabulous, fast. As a competitive dancer, I spent countless hours learning complex steps and patterns. Hours in the studio? I?ve been there, done that. Ego-shattering coaches? I could tell you stories! And I?ve danced before panels of super-critical judges, all looking for the slightest mistake, so I know all about being anxious when it comes to dancing in public. You know what made all that worthwhile? Becoming confident in my abilities made performing incredibly fun and rewarding. Instead of worrying about performing, I lived for it. As a professional dance instructor, I?ve taught hundreds of couples just like you to dance beautifully at their weddings. But the most important thing about my experience isn?t what I?ve taught; it?s what I?ve learned. And now I?m offering the most important things I?ve learned to you. Within a few days of downloading my system, after a few short, easy practice sessions, you?ll relish the chance to dance. You?ll be confident, you?ll be graceful, you?ll be perfectly synchronized, and you?ll know everything you need to know to dance like the perfect couple! All you need to know, to dance like stars at your wedding, are a few simple principles of balance, posture, rhythm and movement that you can learn in a few minutes. Then, you?ll combine these easy elements in a simple system.

You?re probably going to video your dance and preserve it forever: all the more reason to make sure that in years to come, when you watch it, you think "Wow, we do look good." And by the way, I?d love to see your dance; Would you, could you, please send me a copy of your video so I can celebrate with you?

Everyone at the reception will be sure you had to memorize complicated step patterns. From the outside looking in, it will seem as though you must have studied for months to dance so effortlessly. Nope! It was easy. But you know what?s even better? From the inside, it feels as good as it looks.

To follow my unique system, you need to be able to count to four. Oh, I suppose I have to admit that you need a few other things. Like, you need to want to connect-really connect-with your partner. You need to want to express your love in a beautiful, physical way. It helps if you want to have fun and turn each other on a bit, too.

Before you can dance with grace and poise, you need to be able to stand, breathe, and take a step with grace and poise. The good news is, I?ll show you a few simple exercises that will allow you to do that within minutes of downloading my system. Not only will you look great dancing once you understand these principles, you?ll look great everywhere else, too. Frankly, I?m surprised how many people spend hundreds (even thousands!) of dollars on dance lessons but who never learn the basics. Lots of teachers go right into "teaching the steps" as though they were building a house with no foundation!

Your wedding song is almost certainly a rhumba, a foxtrot or a waltz. (If you don?t know which it is yet, don?t worry, because when you download my system, you?ll learn how to tell them apart in a few minutes. It could hardly be any easier, but it is: I?ll also give you a list of the most popular "first dance" songs and break them out by type.) No matter what style of dance your song calls for, it?s based on a simple box step. If your fiance can walk down a sidewalk and step around a parking meter, he can lead you in a box step. Really, it?s that easy. And after? Read more?

Ochocinco demure in long-awaited Super spotlight (AP)

INDIANAPOLIS ? Chad Ochocinco was the last Patriot to walk across the field and wade into the pack of reporters and photographers waiting near the sideline. He felt no need to rush the moment he'd longed for nearly his whole life.

This was his Super Bowl media day.

Ochocinco finally got to be on the receiving end of questions Tuesday at Lucas Oil Stadium for an annual event that he attended several times as a microphone-toting correspondent for his social media Ochocinco News Network.

Now, the microphones were aimed at him.

"Aw, man, I've dreamed of it," Ochocinco said, wearing his blue No. 85 jersey, blue Super Bowl cap and irrepressible smile. "I've been playing this game a long time ? started out at 4 years old. And this is what you dream of, to come to this stage and enjoy it. So that's what I'm going to do."

And he's doing it the New England way.

Instead of driving the conversation by talking about himself, Ochocinco was along for the ride. He didn't seem to mind that he didn't get one of the 14 podiums set up on the field for coach Bill Belichick and players.

Instead, he stood at the 13-yard line between podiums reserved for tight end Aaron Hernandez and receiver Matthew Slater, his soft tone often drowned out by his teammates' speaker-amplified comments.

Didn't matter.

"This is my podium," Ochocinco said, referring to his small section of artificial turf encircled by reporters and photographers. "If I was up there, you couldn't get to me. You couldn't smell the cologne I have on now."

During the nearly hour-long session, Ochocinco provided hardly a whiff of his old look-at-me ways. After 10 years of commanding the spotlight and losing games in Cincinnati, the social media mogul had to pull off one of his most difficult changes.

Ochocinco had to use the words "I" and "me" much more sparingly in order to co-exist with Belichick in New England. He had to learn, he says, throwing in an obscenity, to shut up.

There was no remorse in his tone on Tuesday. He knew when the Patriots traded for him that his self-promoting ways would have to end. If he lapsed back into look-at-me, he'd be looking at the end of his stay in New England.

So, he did away with his lists of cornerbacks who couldn't cover him, his touchdown skits and victory guarantees. Ochocinco, who legally changed his name from Johnson to get more attention, would have to drop the "diva" from his job description.

"I could have talked," he said, `but then I'd be sitting at home today.

"I think I've had a great career in general. The year wasn't what I expected, what everyone else expected. But I did everything I was supposed to do ? work, stay quiet. I don't know if being on this stage is a reward, but there's nothing else I can do. I'm part of a team and I've done everything asked of me."

Especially the "stay quiet" part, which went against his nature.

He repeatedly bumped egos in Cincinnati with coach Marvin Lewis, who referred to him once as "Ocho Psycho." Ochocinco miffed teammates with his attention-gathering antics ? and his sloppy pass routes ? and got under the skin of opponents by sending them Pepto-Bismol and other gifts. The league repeatedly fined him for his on-field celebrations and refusal to follow its uniform code.

He set Bengals receiving records, but made the playoffs only twice in 10 years and went 0-2. He tried to get out of town, but ownership made him stay. He started planning for his next career, getting involved in social media, including his OCNN venture.

During the NFL lockout last summer, he rode a 1,500-pound bull for 1.5 seconds, tried out for Kansas City's MLS team and took a 160 mph spin around the Atlanta Motor Speedway with Jeff Burton.

He felt revived when the Bengals traded him to the Patriots in July, but quickly realized his career was taking an abrupt turn. He became a small piece in a high-powered passing game, catching only 15 passes all season for 275 yards and one uncelebrated touchdown.

"I know the season hasn't gone the way he wanted to," said Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew, filling in for Ochocinco on his OCNN crew this week. "The way they do things up there, I think he's kind of understood that and gone along with it. I'm happy for the guy."

Ochocinco sounded upbeat about all of it. Asked if it was bittersweet for him to get to the title game as a reserve receiver without a podium, he smiled.

"It's not bittersweet," he said. "It's the Super Bowl."

Cardinal Anthony Bevilacqua dies in Pa. at 88 (AP)

PHILADELPHIA ? Cardinal Anthony Bevilacqua, the retired head of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and an uncharged central figure in a child sex-abuse case that involves the alleged shuffling of predator priests to unwitting parishes, has died. He was 88.

Bevilacqua died in his sleep Tuesday night ? days after lawyers battled over his competence to testify at an upcoming trial ? at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in the Philadelphia suburb of Wynnewood after battling dementia and an undisclosed form of cancer, an archdiocese spokeswoman said. He had been the spiritual leader of the 1.5 million-member Archdiocese of Philadelphia from 1988 until his retirement in 2003.

Bevilacqua, trained in both civil and canon law, was sharply criticized but never charged by two Philadelphia grand juries investigating child sex abuse complaints lodged against dozens of priests in the archdiocese.

In the days before his death, a Philadelphia judge had ruled him competent to testify if called as a witness in the child-endangerment trial of a high-ranking former aide accused of moving sexually-abusive priests to new churches as part of a systematic cover-up of child sex allegations.

Last year, following the second grand jury report, prosecutors said not much had changed since the first investigation, when the "abuse was known, tolerated, and hidden by high church officials, up to and including the Cardinal (Bevilacqua) himself."

As a church leader, Bevilacqua campaigned for a moratorium on the death penalty and often spoke out against homosexuality, birth control and abortion. He headed the influential bishops' Committee on Pro-Life Activities.

In 2002, when the church came under fire for clerical sexual abuse, he called homosexuality an "aberration, a moral evil" and suggested gays were more likely to commit abuse. Under Bevilacqua, the Philadelphia archdiocese tried to weed out gay candidates to the priesthood and expelled any seminarian found to be an active homosexual ? a zero-tolerance policy experts called relatively rare.

He was not averse to new methods of outreach. Heeding the pope's call for a "New Evangelization," Bevilacqua used then-novel methods, such a toll-free confession line, a live weekly radio call-in program and an online forum for people to pose questions to priests.

"We are carrying out the wishes of the Holy Father for a new evangelization, reaching out to people like never before," Bevilacqua said after a telephone hotline began in 1998.

At the same time, attendance at weekly Mass and Catholic school enrollment was falling in some parts of the archdiocese, leading him to close inner-city schools and parishes. The decline continues. The five-county archdiocese just this month announced plans to close 48 schools, displacing nearly 24,000 students.

Bevilacqua, as required, had submitted his retirement to Pope John Paul II when he turned 75 in 1998. But the pope did not accept it at that time, and the cardinal kept up 16-hour days into his late 70s.

"I exercise regularly and my whole work is constant activity of the mind. A lot of reading, meetings, analyses and discussions," he said at age 77. "My life as an archbishop is delightfully hectic."

He made a habit of rising daily at 5 a.m. to pray, lift weights and run several miles on a treadmill at home. "Come 8 o'clock, my day is not my own," he said.

But he settled into retirement after turning 80 in 2003. The first grand jury began its work that year. Bevilacqua's successor, Cardinal Justin Rigali, retired last year after the second grand jury report led to the charges against Monsignor William Lynn and four others, including three priests charged with rape. Both reports blasted Bevilacqua's leadership.

Lynn was the first U.S. church official ever charged in the priest-abuse scandal for his administrative actions. His lawyers argue that he took orders from Bevilacqua. Lynn's trial is scheduled to start in March.

The grand jury that charged Lynn last year said he "routinely and knowingly placed abusive priests in positions where they would have continued access to children" with Bevilacqua's knowledge and under his direction.

Bevilacqua had been deposed in late November to preserve his testimony, given his age and illnesses. But defense lawyers said he no longer recognized Lynn and could not remember much about his own 10 grueling appearances before the grand jury in 2003 and 2004.

"With the passing of Cardinal Bevilacqua, we will never learn the full truth about clergy sex crimes and cover ups," said Barbara Blaine, president of the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests.

Anthony Joseph Bevilacqua was born in 1923, in Brooklyn, the ninth of 11 children of Italian immigrants.

He graduated from Cathedral College in 1943, then attended Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Huntington, N.Y., before being ordained a priest in 1949.

He earned a doctoral degree in canon law from Gregorian University, Rome, in 1956, a master's degree in political science from Columbia University in 1962 and a law degree from St. John's University Law School in 1975. While he was admitted to practice law in New York and Pennsylvania, he never argued in a court.

In 1976, he was named chancellor of the Brooklyn Diocese. He was ordained as a bishop in 1980 and made auxiliary bishop of Brooklyn.

He remained chancellor of the diocese and director of its Migration and Refugee Office until 1983, when Pope John Paul II appointed him bishop of the Diocese of Pittsburgh.

China's concern grows over 29 abducted in Sudan (AP)

BEIJING ? China's Foreign Ministry on Tuesday summoned a leading Sudanese diplomat to express "deep shock" over the abduction of 29 Chinese workers after an attack in a volatile region of the country.

The summons is a sign of growing Chinese concern over the fate of the workers, three days after they were taken by militants in the South Kordofan region.

Sudanese state media reported Monday that 14 of them had been freed, but the official Xinhua News Agency and China Daily newspaper said all 29 were still being held.

"The Chinese government attaches great importance to protecting overseas Chinese nationals. We felt deep shock over this abduction incident and are deeply concerned over the safety of the 29 Chinese," Vice Foreign Minister Xie Hangsheng was quoted as saying in a statement posted on the ministry's website.

China hopes Sudan will "keep in mind the overall situation of bilateral friendship" and ensure their swift release, Xie told Sudanese Charge d'Affaires Omer Eisa Ahmed, according to the statement.

It quoted Eisa as pledging Sudan's full support.

The summons was a rare public sign of tension in China's close political and economic relations with Sudan, which center on exchanging Chinese infrastructure projects for access to Sudanese oil.

That followed the dispatch earlier Tuesday of a group of Chinese security experts to assist in the rescue work.

A statement from the workers' company, Sinohydro Corp., said that it and the Chinese Embassy would "spare no effort in ensuring the personal safety of those abducted and rescuing them."

Xinhua said 47 Chinese workers were caught in the attack in the South Kordofan region of Sudan. It said 29 were captured and the other 18 fled, and that one of those who fled remains missing.

Sudan's state-run SUNA news agency said the attack took place near Abbasiya town, 390 miles (630 kilometers) south of Khartoum.

Sudanese officials have blamed the attack on the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North, a branch of a guerrilla movement that has fought various regimes in Khartoum for decades.
